More CMA Information and Testimonials
What we’re all about.............
First off, if you are reading this it is because you have either expressed
interest in my models and services offered and/or you are also a fellow
auto enthusiast (read: car nut). I’m Marshall Buck and I established
Creative Miniature Associates in 1982 with the generous help and urging
of fellow enthusiast Peter G. Livanos.
Creative Miniature Associates, Inc. is frequently referred to as Creative
Miniatures or CMA. To clarify this a bit further I have also produced
various models under the names: Tipo Models and CMA Models. The
latest addition to my line up is The Loring Collection under which I produce
high quality automotive jewelry in Sterling Silver and 14K Gold.
The idea from the very beginning was to specialize and cater to serious
collectors by offering them a combination of specific services under one
roof that to this day no one else does or is able to.
The services offered are.: The finest highly detailed custom built to order
models in various scales which are built by myself and just a few other
craftsmen working under my direction; producing my own line of extremely
limited edition hand built models and kits which is comprised of a varied
selection of the finest collector models ranging from the classics of the
1930’s to the full competition cars of the early 1970’s; consulting service;
occasionally representing another top level craftsman as I did with the late
Manuel Olive Sans and now do with Sean McKenna; and selling some of
the rarest one-of-a-kind scratch built models offered through my
Brokerage Service.
The philosophy is simple. Do it right or don’t do it at all, and quality is
paramount. Create and produce the finest quality limited edition hand built models and custom built to order pieces; not to cut corners
or over produce any edition; and for each individual model or edition I place an extremely strong emphasis on getting the body shape
just right along with very high detail level and very importantly, historical accuracy. I can’t tell you how many models I’ve seen that
clearly miss one or all of the above areas. I remember a conversation I had in 1988 with the late Victor Gauntlett. He said to me
«...........quality always sells; and what you do Marshall is superb quality.» I can proudly say that thanks to the patronage of so many
loyal customers CMA has become world renowned for exceptional quality & attention to every detail and to only being associated with
the finest.
The edition sizes of built models on the average are now limited to a series of as few as 10 to 25 with an occasional stretch to 50.
The expertise and knowledge you receive as a customer at CMA is the most comprehensive to be found. In the field of model
collecting there is unfortunately a great deal of misinformation as well as so many blatant oversights and if you will pardon the pun; so
many so called professionals steering customers in the wrong direction all in the name of making a quick dollar. That does not
happen here. I can say with complete confidence that my range of knowledge in this field is unsurpassed and customers always
receive honest and thorough information which is the same that I would want for myself being a serious collector too. CMA and I are
the only specialist in the world that have sold numerous models by so many of the best artisans such as Manuel Olive Sans, Gerald
Wingrove, Michelle Conti, Sean McKenna, Bob Hine, Jacques Brauer, Stephen Barnett, Jim Ison, David Hayward, Alistair Brookman,
Giuseppe Da Corte, and several others who are not as well known, myself included.
Some of you will also remember that for 11 years I wrote a featured review and information column on models of all types for every
issue of Vintage Motorsport Magazine. My last column was published in early 1999.
The shameless self promotion continues.:
My first large scale (meaning larger than 1:20th scale) model was of the Le Mans winning Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta which received
rave reviews and was hailed by Prancing Horse Magazine as «the next best thing to owning the full sized car.» This particular edition
was the first 1:14th scale limited edition model by anyone to feature full chassis detail, so much so that I also produced an edition of
separate Rolling Chassis models. My Barchetta model was also personally selected by Tim Allen, the star of the hit T.V. series «Home
Improvement» to be part of the main house set and was briefly featured in one scene with him and shown in many episodes. This
edition of models was also personally autographed by Luigi Chinetti, Sr. Oh yes, and it was also approved by Touring Superleggera
whom designed and built the original Barchetta bodies. This model had to be great from the start since as they say: you only get one
chance to make a first impression.
Another first was offering models personally autographed by famous racing drivers and automotive personalities. I have been very
fortunate to have plaques autographed specifically for my editions by Chris Amon, Luigi Chinetti Sr., Jack Brabham, George Follmer,
Juan Manuel Fangio, Dan Gurney, Denny Hulme, Jacky Ickx, Lloyd Ruby, Stirling Moss, and Jacques Swaters.
Over the years CMA has been selected to produce special display and award models and limited editions for Aston Martin Lagonda
Ltd., Chrysler Corporation, Monterey Historic Automobile Races, Ferrari North America, Honda Performance Development, Toyota
Motor Sales and others.
In 1998 I was assigned the task of curating a museum exhibition of over 80 of some of the best models in the world for an exhibit titled
«The Art of The Automotive Model.» This ran for a few months at the Stamford Museum and I have been told that this was one of the
most highly attended exhibits they had ever had. A very limited book edition will eventually be published.
More information about CMA can be found in a number of articles and some mentions that have appeared over the years in various
magazines. I am grateful for all of them. Thank you to: AutoWeek, Car Collector, Autosport, AMOC Quarterly, Prancing Horse, Auto
Aficionado, Sportscar International, Classic and Sportscar, Greenwich Time, Robb Report, Automobiles Classiques, Model Auto
Review, Scale Auto Enthusiast, Four Small Wheels, Quattororuotine and more.
